What is Microsoft Security Essentials

Windows Defender's functions are included in MSE so loading Defender would be redundant.

Windows Defender = antispyware
MSE = antivirus + antispyware.
So think of MSE as Windows Defender with added Antivirus Software. And its free for HOME users

Check this :

Start - type in Search box -> MSCONFIG find at top - Right Click on - RUN AS ADMIN

Startup tab - Uncheck Windows Defender (if listed) and APPLY / OK - REBOOT

That should stop Defender from loading.

If needed after the above :

Do these to clear corruption and repair/replace damaged/missing system files.

Run DiskCleanup - Start - All Programs - Accessories - System Tools - Disk Cleanup

Start - type in Search box - COMMAND find at top of list - RIGHT CLICK - RUN AS ADMIN

sfc /scannow
